After nurses complained about the high parking fee, the City of Seattle started a free parking program for hospital workers on Thursday amid the coronavirus pandemic.

In a Fox 13 Seattle interview with Brittney Campbell, a nurse at Harborview Medical Center, she said that she used to commute via public transit to work but, in an effort to observe social distancing, she opted to take her own car.

As an employee, she has an employee parking discount at work, however the fee of $20 for an all-day parking at the hospital is still costly.

In a Fox News article, Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan announced that the city would establish free-parking zones for COVID-19 health care workers at six hospitals and at test centers for coronavirus.

"No health care worker should spend an extra ounce of energy worrying about parking before they work a long shift to care for our community," Durkan said.
