‘Secrets And Lies’ Star Ryan Phillippe Books New TV Show With Mark Wahlberg
Ryan Phillippe is moving on from “Secrets and Lies.” The actor will leave the ABC drama, which was recently renewed for Season 2, in order to film a new USA drama series, “Shooter.”
Phillippe will play a former marine, according to TVLine. He lives off the grid, but an assassination threat of the President will bring him back into the field. “Ultimately double-crossed and framed for the attempt, he must call upon all the skills he acquired as a decorated Marine sharpshooter to avoid capture while hunting down and exposing the traitors who set him up,” the report says.
“Shooter” is based on the 2007 movie of the same name starring Mark Wahlberg, who will serve as executive producer. The movie and TV series are inspired by the Stephen Hunter novel, “Point of Imact.”
This new gig means that Phillippe will no longer be in “Secrets and Lies.” The actor’s character Ben was arrested at the end of Season 1 because he took the blame for a crime he didn’t commit. In a special online clip, Natalie (Indiana Evans) seemed to be ready to clear her father’s name. It looked like a set up for the second season, but the series will have to move on without Ben. Phillipe revealed that he wouldn’t return after “Secrets and Lies” was renewed for Season 2.
“Secrets and Lies” Season 2 will now focus on a different case. “The anthology series’ second season will star Michael Ealy as Eric Warner, whose wife’s death provides the mystery that Detective Andrea Cornell (Juliette Lewis) will investigate,” Entertainment Weekly reports.
The new gig might affect another potential role for the “Cruel Intentions” actor. Phillippe was rumored to be the frontrunner for “Marvel’s Iron Fist,” one of the series the superhero studio is collaborating with Netflix to create. Since both USA and Netflix tend to have 13 episode seasons, it’s possible that Phillippe could balance both. However, he still hasn’t been confirmed as the superhero yet.
“Secrets and Lies” Season 2 airs in 2016 on ABC. USA has not announced a release date for “Shooter."
