Selena Gomez to host MMVA
The 2011 MuchMusic Video Awards, MMVA, on Sunday, the biggest music awards in Canada, will be co-hosted by Selena Gomez, the star of Wizards of Waverly Place and current girlfriend of the sensation of the soil, Justin Bieber. The other presenter Is Colin Farrell.
The show has a line-up of impressive performers booked including Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, The Black Keys and Canada-born singer Avril Lavigne. The event has surely extended its appeal south of the borders with more international performers becoming a part of the awards night in the past years. Lady Gaga set the stage on fire (literally) in 2009. Earlier hosts include the Jonas Brothers and Miley Cyrus. The show producers try to ensure one teen sensation as a part of the awards night celebrations.
It's exciting and scary at the same time because (Wizards) was my safety net. That's all I really know so it'll be interesting to detach from that and be on my own, said Gomez on the phone from Los Angeles recently in an interview to Toronto Sun. Asked whether Justin Bieber , who has been nominated for two awards, will be her official date, the answer was no comments by her publicist. Justin hosted the show last year. She added that she was nervous about hosting the show as she has never done it before.
Selena Gomez has been in the news more often as the girlfriend of Justin Bieber than for her performances recently. She has been the target of hate mail and threats by Bieber fans, and was recently rushed to hospital for food poisoning. Asked whether she identifies with her other Disney fellow mates who have been facing rough weather like her best friend, Demi Lovato, she answered that the transition from a teenager to an adult is always difficult and everyone does it their own way.
Selena Gomez is in the fourth and final season of Wizards, her movie Monte Carlo is opening on July 1 and her third album is set for release end of June. She is all set for a north American tour in August. All in all it seems her professional cup is full and overflowing.
In an interview with Good Morning America, Selena did not rule out doing a duet with Bieber in the future, as she said, “I’m not sure. Whenever I do songs I kind of do them organically. So if it happens it happens.”
