Selena Gomez and Plus1 teamed up to launch Black Equality Fund in support of organizations dedicated to the Black community.

On Tuesday (June 23), Gomez took to social media to announce the new fund she and Plus1 created for the Black community. They aim to raise money to support different organizations dedicated to help Black voices be heard.

“.@plus1org and I have created a Black Equality Fund to amplify organizations on the frontline of ensuring Black voices are heard,” Gomez wrote on Twitter.

“It’s all of our responsibly to fight for equality & justice for the Black community. Silence isn’t an option, let’s all join this fight for equality,” she added.

According to the website, the Black Equality Fund aims to drive money and awareness to those who are at the forefront of the movement fighting for change. All the donations that it will receive will go to the following organizations: TGI Justice Project, Black Futures Lab, Fair Count, African American Policy Forum, BLDPWR, Color of Change, Know Your Rights Camp, BU Center for Antiracist Research, Equal Justice Initiative, and Movement for Black Lives.

“Everyone needs to have their voices heard and we can do that by VOTING, as well as lending our time, effort and (if able) donations to fight for equality, equity and justice for the black community and other marginalized communities. Join me!” Gomez wrote on the site.

The “Kill Em With Kindness” singer has been actively supporting the Black community. In fact, on Blackout Tuesday, she shut down her website to show her support to the Black Lives Matter movement.

“It’s my hope today you are taking the time to do some introspective thinking about how we can all come together and listen to one another with an open heart and mind,” Gomez wrote.

“The country is long overdue for meaningful changes to our broken society. Black lives matter.”

After a few days, Gomez announced that she would be giving Black leaders the chance to manage her Instagram account. The singer has a massive following of 178 million. She decided to do it because she said it was the best way to use her social media account to “hear more from Black voices.”
