KEY POINTS

  • Selena Gomez is focusing on her mental health and doesn't plan to settle down soon
  • She feels she was too young to be exposed to certain things in previous relationships
  • The singer revealed why the word "Rare" means so much to her

Selena Gomez has revealed that she felt “cursed” in most of her past relationships. Her statement came a month after the songstress said she was in no rush to start dating.

In an interview ahead of the launch of her “Rare” makeup line in Australia, Gomez talked about the experiences in her past relationships and revealed why she felt cursed in most of them.

“I’ve been way too young to be exposed to certain things when I was in relationships,” she told Vogue during the interview. “I guess I needed to find what was that word for me, because I felt so less than in past relationships, and never really felt equal.”

Gomez went on to explain why she chose “Rare” as the brand name of her new makeup line, saying it represents the way she wants to live her life for herself.

“It wasn’t even necessarily like: ‘Oh, I feel that way, let me sing it.’ It was almost like: ‘Actually, I need to feel that way about myself,’” she explained. “I think that my family, and my chosen family—I feel like I’m surrounded by real people,” she added.

The singer said she named her new makeup line “Rare” because the word means a lot to her. Previously, she even got the word tattooed on her neck and picked it as the name of her album.

Since releasing her latest album, Gomez has openly spoken about how she cares for her mental health and how it has helped her in both her life and career.

“My best stuff is happening now,” she said in a recent interview with her mom, Mandy Teefey.

Earlier in June, a source also told ET how Gomez has been in a great place since focusing on herself. “Selena has continued to stay focused and busy in terms of her life and career,” said the source. “She is in a great place and really feels like she knows herself at this point.”

The source also revealed that Gomez has no plans of settling down anytime soon and wants to make sure she’s in a safe space before dating anyone again.
