Serena Wlliams’ husband, Reddit founder Alexis Ohanian, is worth an estimated $40 million, but it's nowhere near the tennis superstar's net worth of $210 million. Here’s how the couple built their massive fortunes.

Williams is considered the greatest of all time when it comes to women’s tennis. She has been on top of her game for so long and has been consistently dominant, as proven by her 23 career Grand Slam titles.

Considering the prize money, sponsorships and ventures she has accumulated in her long, illustrious career, it is no surprise that Williams is worth hundreds of millions today. Her career prize money alone totals $94 million, twice as much as any other female athlete, according to Forbes.

When not busy serving aces and firing backhands, the 39-year-old is busy promoting brands. With several titles under her name, there is no shortage of brands and companies wanting her signature on deals.

Williams had signed a five-year, $40 million endorsement deal with Nike in 2004, and she's since signed other deals for undisclosed amounts. Other brands she has collaborated or had sponsorships with are Beats by Dre, Aston Martin, Intel, Audemars Piguet, Bumble, Gatorade, JPMorgan Chase, Upper Deck and Wilson Sporting Goods, per Forbes.

Like his wife, Ohanian is also a multi-millionaire. He built his fortune on the success of Reddit, which he co-founded with Steve Huffman and Aaron Swartz in 2005.

Ohanian served as a member of the board of directors when Reddit was purchased by Conde Nast for a reported $20 million in 2006. He’s been in and out of Reddit but announced last year that he is officially stepping down from his position on the company’s board.

The American technopreneur has also invested in Breadpig, Hipmunk, Das Kapital Capital, Kinside and Initialized Capital, among others. But his involvement with several tech startups did not end there.

The Brooklyn, New York native is also involved in activism, opting to use technology for fundraisers. He was named one of the top 10 most influential activists in 2012. He supports internet neutrality.

On the personal side, Ohanian and Williams were first romantically linked in 2015. A year later, the two confirmed their relationship and announced their engagement. The power couple married in 2017 and welcomed their daughter, Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr., in that same year.

Aside from her staggering career earnings, Williams, like her husband, also invests in technology through Serena Ventures. She has invested in over 50 startups in the past six years and owns stakes in Miami Dolphins and UFC, per Forbes.
