Serena Williams revealed the unusual daily routine that helped her become a longtime world champion.
Being a 23-time major singles title holder surely comes with hardwork and perseverance. Just like any other athlete, Williams has been taking her craft seriously and evidently, it all paid off. However, aside from her formidable workout routine paired with vegan diet, the 38-year-old revealed that she has developed a two non-negotiable and somewhat unorthodox strategies to maintain her productivity.
It was never an easy task to be a tennis world champion and a mother. This is why Williams ensures that she’s always at her best form whether she’s competing, training or being a mom to her lovely daughter Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr.
In a recent interview with CNBC “Make It,” Williams emphasized the importance of “completely” letting go of any stress. According to the tennis icon, “turning her brain off” doesn’t only help her in sports but also in handling her businesses as well.
“Something I do every day is [to] completely turn my brain off, which sounds weird but because I work so much between tennis and running my other properties—Serena Ventures and Serena Clothing. But it’s a lot so I just need to turn my brain off and not think about anything,” Williams pointed out.
The other unbelievable thing Williams regularly does is to relax and watch TV. Indeed, it is kind of ordinary for a normal person to watch a TV program but Williams has a specific type of TV shows which she figured out essential for her recreation.
“Sometimes it’s mediation. Sometimes it’s watching a program [on TV] that has nothing to do with anything, like something that is silly or fun,” Williams revealed.
Based on Williams’ two secret daily routine, it seems like clearing things off her head really works for her. In fact, last year, Williams also revealed her simple secret to longevity.
According to legendary tennis player, as she ages, she learned not to “put the pressure of winning more Grand Slams” on herself and just want to enjoy every moment. Instead, Williams said that she is now having fun inside the tennis court.
“You know, every time I win Grand Slams, if I continue ‑ and I will try my best to win more ‑ I just want to have fun with it, so... I think what enables me to win more is the fact that I don't put that pressure on myself,” Williams revealed.
