Serena Williams U.S. Open outburst cost her $82,500
Serena Williams was fined a record amount of $82,500 by the Grand Slam Administration for her outburst at the U.S. Open 2009 semifinals, the Associated Press reports today.
Williams will be in a probation period at tennis' four major championships in 2010 and 2011 where she must avoid major offenses or face suspension.
The highest amount set for a fine was $48,000 to Jeff Tarango in the 1990s.
Williams is an 11-time Grand Slam singles champion. During the semifinals against ultimate champion Kim Clijsters Williams shouted to a lineswoman I swear to God, I'll f- take this ball and shove it down your f- throat.
