SevenSuperGirls YouTube Channel Shut Down After Founder Pleads Guilty To Child Abuse

SevenSuperGirls, a once popular YouTube channel created in 2008, has officially been shut down after one of the channel's co-founders, Ian Rylett, pleaded guilty in a Florida court last week to child abuse.

"We take safety on YouTube very seriously," a company spokesperson said in a statement to BuzzFeed News. "We work closely with leading child safety organizations and others in our industry to protect young people. When we’re made aware of serious allegations of this nature we take action, which may include terminating channels upon conclusion of an investigation."

At its peak, the SevenSuperGirls channel, which featured stars aged 11-18, amassed more than 9 million subscribers.

The SevenSuperGirls channel was deleted after 55-year-old Rylett, a British citizen, alleged verbally abused a young girl, making her undress in front of him and made her chest area appear smaller for videos. The underaged girl also claimed that he touched her breasts and told her to remove her underwear.

Rylett was arrested last August at a hotel near Walt Disney World on a charge of lewd or lascivious battery of a minor less than 16. Rylett's guilty plea means he will avoid a public trial and possible 15-year jail sentence had he been convicted, according to Click Orlando. He will now serve 90 days in Orange County Jail in Florida and is being given credit for 29 days he served while awaiting trial.
