KEY POINTS

  • Seventeen did not give any hint about releasing a new track
  • "Dream" is released in Korean and Japanese versions
  • The track's mellow beat is a huge departure from the lively tunes of Seventeen songs

K-Pop artist Jeonghan from boyband Seventeen released a solo single “Dream” reflecting a different sound than the usual hip-hop and electronic dance music the group is known for.

The track was dropped Thursday and also released on Seventeen's official YouTube channel. The release of the song surprised fans as there was no announcement about a new track from the group or from any of its members.

On YouTube, the track has been viewed nearly 400,000 times since it was posted.

Fans took to Twitter to express their delight for the new song and its beautiful lyrics which were written by Jeonghan himself who also produced the track.

One fan was clearly touched by the song and expressed appreciation for its easy vibe, saying, “'Dream' is really just a Jeonghan song??? Like it sounds just like the type of songs he listens to and has shared with us in the past and everything from the atmosphere to the lyrics embodies him so well you can clearly tell it's self-produced by him.”

Another user highlighted the track’s international appeal, writing, "In particular, Jeonghan unexpectedly released the Korean version of 'Dream' as well as the Japanese version, giving fans (CARATs) a special gift. It is filled with Jeonghan's light yet warm voice which is drawing attention by impressing global fans."

Another fan could not believe Jeonghan has released a solo single. “When '1st look' happened Jeonghan stayed quiet and didn’t even react to it…when 'Dream' happened he just teased everyone and then was gone again. He always...is just so low-key about his accomplishments and here we all are still suffering after 7 hours of the song release,” Twitter user @guojeu said.

“Dream” is released in Korean and Japanese versions and also features Prismfilter’s Glenn and Nmore as songwriters and Nmore as musical arranger too.

A Twitter user by the name of @.17_HAMZZI tweeted an English translation of the song, a part of which says, “On the days you’re there, I dream a good dream. When I open my eyes, I see you deeply sleeping beside me. I rub my sleepy eyes as the sunlight brightly shines.”

Jeonghan’s solo single comes at the heels of Seventeen’s recent album, “Your Choice: 8th Mini Album” which reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart in July where it remained for 11 weeks.

Other K-Pop artists that climbed the Billboard charts are BTS, Blackpink and TXT.
