  • Several sex workers believe Bella Thorne earning $2 million on OnlyFans will seriously damage their work
  • They believe that since Thorne is a celebrity with lot of privilege, she will not be criticized
  • Apart from Thorne, celebrities like Cardi B and Blac Chyna are also part of the platform

A recent report claimed that actress Bella Thorne earned $2 million in less than a week after making her account on the content-subscription website OnlyFans. However, the news did not sit well with the sex workers who rely on the platform to earn their livelihood.

Several sex workers believe that celebrities just join the platform to easily earn profits. Meanwhile, many believe that the platform was “built” by them but they never got the credit for making the platform what it is today, Rolling Stone reported.

Sex worker and writer Jessie Sage said that notable personalities do not have to face backlash from the society while being active on a website like OnlyFans while they are shamed for their profession on a regular basis.

“These celebrity users never have to face the stigma that we do. They can just profit off of platforms we have built, without enduring any of the backlashes that we have to endure,” Rolling Stone quoted Sage, as saying.

Another sex worker and OnlyFans content creator revealed that seeing a celebrity making an outrageous amount of money without acknowledging the conditions of sex workers is a “slap in the face.”

“To witness a celebrity gentrifying a platform and making obscene amounts of money without acknowledging the plight of sex workers is truly a slap in the face,” Aussie Rachel told the publication.

On the other hand, some said that making money on the platform is not easy because it needs a lot of hard work and requires a lot of “original content creation.”

“People think this is easy quick money, blah blah blah. But it ain’t. It is full-time communication, full-time original content creation, full time being ‘on,’” Alice Eve Knox told the media outlet.

Similarly, another sex worker named Ellamourne said that Thorne might face difficulties during her time on the platform but in the end, she is a celebrity and has a lot of “privilege.” Ellamourne also shared that her “perspective” will be way different than what most of the people experience on the platform.

“The perspective she’ll gain won’t be representative of what most people experience as content creators on the platform. I am certain she’ll deal with some of the same issues — fans crossing boundaries, scammers, etc. But at the end of the day she is a celebrity and wields a large amount of privilege,” Ellamourne told Rolling Stone.

The comments come after the former Disney star said that she joined the website only for “research” purposes.

“It's a feature we are researching as I'm living it currently. What are the ins and outs? What does a platform like this do to its users? What's the connective material between your life and your life inside the world of OnlyFans? How can it change your life for the worse and the better?” Thorne said in an interview with the Los Angeles Times.

Apart from Thorne, many notable personalities such as Blac Chyna, Dorinda Medley, Swae Lee, and Cardi B are already part of the platform.
