‘Shadowhunters’ Season 2 Spoilers: Katherine McNamara Teases Tension Between Clary, Jocelyn

“Shadowhunters” star Katherine McNamara has opened up about being a young actress in Hollywood and what it’s like to be part of a successful young adult TV series.

In an interview with ABC News, the actress, who plays Clary in the Freeform series based on Cassandra Clare’s “The Mortal Instruments,” shared how her family has reacted to her success in the entertainment industry. “My whole family is in science and medicine, so this whole world is completely different to them,” McNamara said. “They were supportive, they said, ‘Go follow your dreams, do what you love, just make sure you go to school and get an education.’”

The actress added: “Now they’re recognizing the longevity that this can have, and the build that this career can be. It is a marathon, not a sprint, that it will be something that’s going to last, at least for the meantime.”

McNamara also shared some insight into playing Clary. The actress said she relates to the character on a personal level, although they still differ on a lot of aspects. “Something that’s very interesting is the mother-daughter relationship on the show this season,” the actress said. “I don’t necessarily have that with my mother but every young person goes through that in some capacity.”

What exactly will Clary and her mom Jocelyn (Maxim Roy) go through in the upcoming season? McNamara teased what fans can expect in an interview with Hollywood Life, saying it would be a struggle for the two to try to be on the same page. Jocelyn will be surprised to learn how much her daughter has changed since she put herself in a long sleep in the first season.

Aside from the tension between the two, the upcoming season will also focus a lot on Clary’s family, including the possibility that she and Jace (Dominic Sherwood) are blood-related. Jace has run off with Valentine (Alan van Sprang), and finding him and getting him back will be two of the main goals to achieve in the upcoming season, McNamara said during a Q&A session.
