Shannen Doherty has been diagnosed with breast cancer, the former “Charmed” actress announced as part of a legal battle with management and financial services company, Tanner Mainstain, for neglecting to pay the actress' medical insurance premiums.

The former “Beverly Hills 90210” star filed a lawsuit against the firm Tanner, Mainstain, Glynn & Johnson, for allegedly failing to pay her Screen Actors Guild (SAG) medical insurance during the year 2014 without her consent or knowledge, E!News reported. According to court documents obtained by the entertainment new website, Doherty claimed that Tanner Mainstain ignored a medical insurance invoice sent to the firm in early 2014, which caused SAG to cancel her medical coverage.

The actress further claimed that she was unable to re-enroll in the SAG medical insurance program until 2015. The actress reportedly cut all ties with the firm in February 2014.

After successfully re-enrolling in the SAG insurance program, Doherty visited a doctor in March, wherein she was diagnosed with "invasive breast cancer metastatic to at least one lymph node." The physician reportedly told Doherty that the cancer likely spread through her body during 2014, the year when she was uninsured. The star is said to undergo chemotherapy treatments soon, including a mastectomy procedure.

However, a statement released by Tanner Mainstain denied the claims.

"Tanner Mainstain is saddened to learn that Ms. Doherty is suffering from cancer and wishes her a full recovery. However, the claim that Tanner Mainstain caused her to be uninsured, prevented her from seeking medical care, or somehow contributed to her cancer is patently false. Tanner Mainstain will aggressively defend all of Ms. Doherty's claims in court," the company said in the statement.

Meanwhile, the 44-year-old actress exclusively told People that she is currently undergoing treatment for her illness. In a statement released to the magazine, Doherty said that she is trying to stay positive and continuing to eat right and do exercise. She also thanked her family, friends, fans and doctors for their support.

Doherty is married to photographer Kurt Iswarienko, who is reportedly engaged in a similar legal battle with Tanner Mainstain.
