Russian Maria Sharapova notched an easy straight-sets win, 6-3, 6-1 over compatriot Vitalia Diatchenko in the second round of the 2015 French Open. Diatchenko provided a stiff challenge in the opening set when she had 11 winners to Sharapova’s 12. However, Diatchenko also had 16 unforced errors while Sharapova broke her serve in 3 out of 9 break opportunities.

Sharapova then finished off Diatchenko relatively easier in the second set, which ran for just 35 minutes. Sharapova, who is ranked No. 2 in the world, advanced to the next round and will be pitted against Samantha Stosur of Australia. Stosur made the championship round at the 2010 French Open and has made the semifinal twice at Roland Garros.

Sharapova beat Stosur in the fourth round last year and is 14-2 all-time against the Australian. Stosur defeated American Madison Brengle, 6-1 6-3 in her opening match while Sharapova beat Estonian Kaia Kanepi also in straight sets, 6-2 6-4.

In other women’s singles scores, Germany’s Annika Beck defeated Paula Kania, 6-2 6-2 and Czech Republic’s Lucie Safarova won over Japan’s Kurumi Nara, 6-2 6-0.
