Sharon Osbourne On Ozzy's Drug And Alcohol Relapse: 'I'm Devastated'
Boisterous Sharon Osbourne, who had been unusually quiet about recent divorce rumors, finally opened up Tuesday about her husband’s drug use and how it’s affected their family.
The 60-year-old CBS “Talk” host said she was “devastated” to find out that Ozzy had started to drink heavily and use drugs again, even though the Black Sabbath frontman admitted he has been using drugs for more than a year on a Facebook post last week. But it’s worse than she thought.
"Everybody knows he's been struggling with this his entire life. I never knew he was using prescription drugs," she said. "I knew he was drinking occasionally but I didn't realize the extent."
Osbourne added that the disease of addiction hurts an entire family, not just one person. "We're dealing with it. We've dealt with worse. We're dealing with it and this too shall pass."
This time, when it came to divorce rumors she was very blunt:
"We're not getting divorced. However, am I happy? No. Am I upset? Yes, I am. I'm devastated right now."
According to a report from TMZ, Osbourne is refusing to reconcile with her husband, whom she married in 1987, until he is clean for several months. That won’t be easy for the “Crazy Train” rocker since he’s embarking on a Black Sabbath tour in August.
Ozzy opened up about his struggle with addiction a few months ago during an interview with Spin magazine:
"I'm not a bad person getting better, I'm a sick person getting well," he said. "Alcoholism and drug dependency is a killer disease, you know. I went to two rehab places and then I still went out again. And then I stopped again and then I started. I have accepted I have a problem with drugs and alcohol. That's a big stepping stone, you know. I'm very lucky that I'm still alive and I'm also very lucky I can still put two words together."
