After lots of waiting and anticipation, the Canadian singer Shawn Mendes has finally dropped his first single of 2019 'If I Can't Have You.' And it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that the wait was totally worth it.

The song has already crossed 8 million views, and why not? Ever since he dropped the bombshell all the fans have clearly been playing it on loop.

The black-and-white music video begins with Shawn crooning the song about a special someone while he looks directly at the camera. Mendes can be seen sitting on a couch in a sparse studio, the camera twists and turns as he moves from a piano to a bed, then to a vocal booth. The singer can be seen moving around the studio, and eventually ending up on a treadmill, as he ends the songs with, "Everything means nothing, "If I can't have you"

The video's black-and-white filter adds an extra dash of torment and loneliness, which perfectly fits the lyrics. The Stitches singer has co-written the track alongside collaborators Scott Harris, Teddy Geiger, and Nate Mercreau. He has even co-produced the music video with Geiger.

Ahead of the video release, Mendes made sure to create enough buzz for the big launch by continuously sharing various artworks, and pictures on Twitter and Instagram. Check out his tweets here:

This lovelorn song has inspired the 20-year old singer to go a little retro, as he has revealed that he will be releasing the track on cassette tapes. Even the official artwork for the song features an image of a cassette, with a colorful display of pastel hues.

The 'Treat You Better' singer has had a hectic schedule for the past few months since he has been on a tour across Europe, which he recently concluded. And he will soon be venturing out again as he still has over 100 dates in the other continents of North America, Latin America, Australia, New Zealand, and Asia.

'If I Can't Have You' has come just in time before he makes his second appearance on 'The Saturday Night Live' on May 4, where he will be performing the song live for the first time.

So gear up to witness the magic of Shawn Mendes as he performs this gorgeous track live on the show.
