Sherin Mathews Missing Update: DNA Swabs From Family Vehicles Collected, Items Seized
As the search for the missing Texas toddler Sherin Mathews continued, the FBI seized several items from her house and also collected DNA swabs from the family's vehicles, local media reports said late Wednesday. The 3-year-old went missing on Oct. 7 after her father put the child beneath a tree about 100 feet from their home as punishment for not drinking her milk.
Late Wednesday, the FBI revealed a list of 45 items its agents seized from Matthews' family. The items included the family's washer and dryer, a pink blanket, a vacuum cleaner, shoes, wooden spoons and five cell phones. Authorities also obtained DNA swabs from each of the family's three vehicles.
"This is a very elaborate investigation. It's complex. In my opinion, I can see that no stone is left unturned," a private investigator Mike Bradshaw who has been investigating missing person's cases for years, told ABC's WFAA8.
Sherin's father Wesley Mathews called 911 five hours after he realized his daughter was not beneath the tree where he left her. He told police that he was doing a load of laundry after leaving his daughter out while Sherin’s mother was sleeping throughout the night.
While Wesley hinted at a coyote attack, police said there was no evidence she was dragged away by an animal nor was there any evidence she had been kidnapped.
Police raised doubts over Wesley's delay in informing the police after he realized his daughter went missing. Police also said they determined the family car was missing for about an hour at 4 a.m. EDT the morning Sherin disappeared.
Sherin’s father was arrested on charges of child endangerment but was later released after posting a $250,000 bond.

Authorities said earlier this week that Sherin's family was not cooperating with the investigation. “We’ve reached out to the mother and the attorney,” Richardson Police Sgt. Kevin Perlich said, according to Fox-owned KDFW-TV. "And they’ve refused to speak to us any further."
Sherin’s mother’s lawyer, Kent Starr, told CBS owned KTVT: "She does not know the whereabouts and all she wants is for her daughter to be returned."
