Officers responded to shooting calls at West Peachtree Street at around 1:45 p.m., the Atlanta PD said in a statement.
"Upon arrival, officers located two individuals who appeared to have been shot. One of the victims has died and the second was taken to the hospital for treatment," the statement said.
Moments later, officers received another call that a person was shot at 1100 Peachtree Street. As soon as the officers reached the site, they located one individual who was shot. The person was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to the injuries, the police added.
An "extensive camera network" helped the search for the suspect, Atlanta PD said in a statement.
"With the help of our public safety partners and our extensive camera network, we were able to locate the suspect and safely apprehend her at Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport," the police stated.
Authorities also recovered a handgun from the suspect that was allegedly used for the shooting, NY Post reported.
Addressing a news conference, Darin Schierbaum, interim chief of the Atlanta Police Department, said that they do not believe these were random acts of violence.
"We believe individuals were likely targeted that were harmed today," the interim chief added.
While it is unclear what led to the shootings, cops are currently probing the connections between the different locations of the incident, the police noted in the statement.
Atlanta police believe the suspect in custody may have had an altercation with a condo management company in Colony Square, NewsNation reported.
Mayor Andre Dickens lauded the coordination and professionalism of the police officers as well as the support and information provided by the public that helped the forces in tracking down the suspect.
"I want to state clearly that the security of the airport was never compromised," the Mayor said during a news conference. "The suspect was apprehended prior to being in any controlled areas of the airport."
