For two-year-old Caylee Anthony, life has been tragic and short-lived. Caylee was last seen on June 16, 2008 but it was only on July 15, police authorities were informed about her disappearance.

Casey Anthony, her mother, was arrested on July 18, 2008 and indicted on charges of first degree murder on October 14, 2008, facing the death penalty in Orlando, Florida.

Thus, an endless saga of trials, charges and investigations started. All the time, the defense strongly maintained that Casey was innocent and Caylee's 2008 death was due to accidental drowning.

The case soon became a media obsession with social sites like Twitter and Facebook playing a crucial role in leveraging this global obsession.

On July 5, 2011, Casey was acquitted of all charges but was, however, sentenced to four years in jail for lying about her daughter's disappearance.
