‘Shots Fired’ Season 1, Episode 2 Synopsis Released; What Will Happen In ‘Betrayal Of Trust’?
Ashe (Sanaa Lathan) and Preston (Stephan James) decide to investigate the separate deaths of Jesse Carr (Jacob Leinbach) and Joey Campbell (Kelvin Harrison Jr.) at the same time in Season 1, episode 2 of FOX’s “Shots Fired.”
According to the synopsis for the episode, titled “Hour Two: Betrayal of Trust,” Ashe and Preston face a new challenge in the investigation of Jesse’s death when a controversial video featuring Jesse’s shooter, Officer Beck (Tristan Mack Wilds), leaks.
In Season 1, episode 1, Officer Beck — an African-American deputy — was on patrol when he saw a young white teenager, Jesse, driving a nice vehicle. Officer Beck told Ashe and Preston that white guy in that neighborhood usually means drugs, so he pulled Jesse over.

“I approach the vehicle, ask him a few questions, but the guy was belligerent,” Officer Beck recalled. “[He] refuses to answer anything, so I ask him to step out of the vehicle. He refuses [again]. So I put my hand on my weapon and I ask him again. He finally complies, but as he steps out he reaches for my gun, actually gets a hand on it. And in that moment, it was either him or me. And I shot him.”
While Officer Beck’s account of the incident suggested that the shooting was self-defense, Preston said that there’s also a possibility that the shooting was due to racial profiling, because Officer Beck seemed to have no legitimate cause for pulling Jesse over aside from the fact that he’s a white guy.
The leaked video appeared to confirm Preston’s speculation, as the clip shows Officer Beck making some racist remarks.
In the preview clip for the episode, Ashe and Preston reach out to Officer Breeland (Stephen Moyer) — the first officer to arrive on the scene of Joey’s shooting — to ask him some questions. Unfortunately for the pair, Officer Breeland is not that very accommodating. “You don’t belong here, and you’ll never will,” Officer Breeland tells Ashe and Preston, who works for the Department of Justice.
Meanwhile, in Joey’s murder case, suspicions rise around Pastor Janae (Aisha Hinds) when it’s revealed that she had a run-in with the victim before he was killed. Also, a witness to Joey’s murder goes missing.
“Shots Fired” Season 1, episode 2 airs on Wednesday, March 29 at 8 p.m. EST on FOX. Watch the preview clip below:
