A female police officer on her way to start her shift Wednesday died after she was shot in Shreveport, Louisiana. She was reportedly shot four times, once in the head.

The incident was reported around 8:20 p.m. local time (9:20 p.m. EST) from Midway Avenue, near Linwood and Bernstein. The victim was moved to a hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries, CBS-affiliate KSLA reported.

No arrests were made so far, but officials were questioning someone regarding the incident. Following reports, Shreveport's newly elected mayor, Adrian Perkins, visited the crime scene. Later, he and Shreveport Police Chief Ben Raymond visited the hospital to be with the family of the deceased.

Earlier reports had stated that an armed robbery was involved, which has been dismissed by the officials. The officer was new to the force and was wearing her uniform at the time of the incident.

Another police officer was shot in Raleigh, North Carolina, Wednesday evening.

This is a developing story.
