An off-duty Cleveland police officer who was accused of trying to kidnap a 12-year-old girl has been arrested. Patrol Officer Solomon Nhiwatiwa, 34, turned himself into Euclid police on Tuesday, Fox 8 News reported.

According to the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office, the incident took place on August 16 on Euclid Avenue in the City of Euclid.

Nhiwatiwa approached the victim when she was waiting for her school bus. He asked her if she needed a ride to school. When the girl refused, Nhiwatiwa drove away, only to return about a minute later. He parked his vehicle, walked up to the girl and exposed his genitals. He then began to urinate on the victim’s head, upper body and legs while filming it. When he returned to his car and drove off, that’s when the girl called her mother at work to inform about the incident.

The accused is charged with attempted kidnapping, pandering obscenity involving a minor, disseminating matter harmful to juveniles, endangering children, criminal child enticement, assault and attempted interference with custody.

Nhiwatiwa, a five-year veteran, has been immediately suspended without pay pending the outcome of the criminal investigation. He is scheduled for trial on Aug. 26 at 8:30 a.m.
