'The Simpsons' Guest Star Jim Parsons Explains Cryptocurrency In New Episode [WATCH]
KEY POINTS
- Jim Parsons explained what cryptocurrencies are in the latest episode of "The Simpsons"
- "The Simpsons" predict that cryptocurrency is the money of the future
- In the past, "Simpsons" has predicted key events including Donald Trump becoming President, the Greek debt crisis, and even cryptocurrencies way back in 1997
"The Simpsons" guest star Jim Parsons, better known as the geeky Sheldon Cooper in "The Big Bang Theory," helped the fans of the longest-running TV series demystify what cryptocurrencies are.
On the animated sitcom's latest episode, Parsons offered a brief explainer on cryptos and blockchain with a sing and dance skit. "I'm a consensus of shared and synchronized digital data spread across multiple platforms from Shanghai to Grenada," the "Simpsons'" animated depiction of a crypto ledger sang.
Parsons' explainer video ends with a message displayed on the screen stating: "Using the word 'cryptocurrency' repeatedly while defining cryptocurrency makes it seem like we have a novice's understanding of cryptocurrency. Well that is a total pile of cryptocurrency. In this system, rules are defined for the creation of additional units of cryptocurrency. They can be generated by fiat like traditional currency or just thrown around randomly or all given to LeBron."
The subliminal message continued with a little shot at crypto mining and teasing regarding Satoshi Nakamoto's true identity. "But for some reason, these crypto guys are really into computers. So we have big buildings full of energy-gobbling air-conditioned computers solving useless math problems. But now we can't have straws?! Also, we know who Satoshi is, but we're not telling," it said.
The money of the future
The episode also touched on how crypto is the money of the future. So, fans can add this to the number of "The Simpsons'" accurate predictions, including Donald Trump becoming president, the Greek debt crisis, faulty voting machines in 2008 that came true in the 2012 elections, and many others.
Also, in an episode in 1997 titled "My Sister, My Sitter," there was a building called "Crypto Barn" that appeared on the background of Homer and Marge as the two were out on a date. A slogan was also underneath it that said, "A PLACE FOR CODES." Could this be "The Simpsons" predicting cryptocurrencies 12 years before the birth of Bitcoin?
Still, the prognosis that cryptocurrency is the money of the future is taking place right now, supporting innovations in decentralized finance and applications. There are also improvements in the Bitcoin network that Jack Dorsey is working on at the moment. So, perhaps when The Simpsons forecast comes true in the future, it maybe crypto in full adoption.
