KEY POINTS
- It is listed on the site Instant Gaming
- EA and Maxxis have not yet confirmed if "The Sims 5" is in the development stage
- EA recently shared next-generation plans for its games, including "The Sims 4"
There is speculation that the much-awaited "The Sims 5" will release next year after an online store posted details about it on its site.
Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson, in an interview with CCN in February, spoke about "the ongoing The Sims experience in the years to come." Many fans thought he was referring to "The Sims 5." But EA and Maxxis have not yet revealed any details about the much-awaited game.
A listing on Instant Gaming mentioned the release date of "The Sims 5" as "2021." The site also had an image of the game. While some outlets think the listing could be fake, Devdiscourse claimed that it could be an indication that "The Sims 5" is in the works.
Interestingly, Extra Time Media claimed that the listing has been on the site since February 2020. In 2019, Instant Gaming listed Tropical Paradise as an upcoming "The Sims 4" expansion. In June of the same year, EA officially rolled out "The Sims 4: Island Living" DLC.
Some online stores list upcoming games, even those unconfirmed ones on their sites using vague release windows and old game images as placeholders. While a 2021 release window for "The Sims 5" is possible, EA has not yet said anything about the game or at least acknowledge that it is in the development stage. So game lovers should take it with a pinch of salt.
EA recently shared some details on how some of its fan-favorite titles would perform on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and PS5 when the next-generation consoles arrive a few days from now. It said "The Sims 4" and all its expansion packs would be playable on the upcoming consoles.
According to the game publisher, the popular life-simulation game would run with faster loading times and smoother framerates. But it did not reveal any further details. It is not clear if this is possible because “The Sims 4” is running on next-gen hardware in backward compatibility mode.
"The Sims 4" is now available on PC, Xbox One or PlayStation 4. The game received its latest expansion pack, dubbed Eco Lifestyle, on Jun. 15.
