The Friday Mega Millions jackpot was worth $421 million with a cash option of $289.5 million. The jackpot winner matched all six numbers drawn, plus the gold Mega Ball.
The winning ticket was purchased outside of Los Angeles at a Chevron gas station. The grand prize marked the 13th largest jackpot in Mega Millions history.
Three additional tickets sold in Mississippi, New York, and Texas matched five numbers, winning $1 million each.
However, there was a player from Ohio who managed to hit the Match 5 with the Megaplier, winning $3 million.
A total of 30 tickets won $10,000 by hitting the Match 4 and the Mega Ball. Meanwhile, six players took home $30,000 each for also matching the four numbers and Mega Ball with a Megaplier purchase. The rest of the prizes from the night ranged between $2 to $1,500.
The latest grand prize lottery wins marks the first time the Mega Millions jackpot has passed the $420 million mark since a New York pizzeria sold a winning ticket for $431 million last year.
Following the big win, the Mega Millions jackpot will reset to $20 million with a cash option of $13.7 million. The next drawing will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 1 at 11 p.m EST.
