Siri Vs. Evi - Battle Begins between Voice-Assistance Smartphone Apps (VIDEO)
Evi, a new voice-assisted personal assistant, developed and launched by True Knowledge, a UK-based Internet search technology company is expected to provide tough competition to Apple's Siri.
Siri, which was launched with Apple's iPhone 4S late in 2011, was almost universally declared revolutionary and has since spawned a number of similar programs.
The newest of these, Evi, while not looking to replicate Siri, appears to recognize both voice and text input, keep track of context while showing results and provide far better answers to factual questions.
Evi is the revolutionary artificial intelligence here to help with all of your everyday information needs. Unlike a search engine, which simply looks for matching words and shows you a list of websites, Evi understands what you want to know and gives back exactly what you're after, True Knowledge said about the product.
The program can be downloaded and installed by users of any iPhone model (except 4S, which needs to be jailbroken) and Android-based devices. It is also compatible with the iPod Touch (running iOS 4.0 or above), as well as both versions of the iPads.
Evi's Features:
§ Voice or text input § Local information for the UK and the U.S. - shopping, news, dining and more § One-tap access to most of the program's functions § Built-in browser § An artificial intelligence that promises to learn and adapt
Evi, however, lacks Siri-like features of compatibility with the device's calendar and reminders function. Fortunately for those interested users, the app, which is in its beta version, will soon be updated with several more exciting features, according to the developers.
Evi is free for Android users. However, iPhone owners will need to shell out $1. The app can be downloaded from the respective App Stores.
