'Skyrim' DLC: Six New Trademarks Filed, Merchandise And Content Possibly In The Works [VIDEO]
Bethesda Softworks and parent company ZeniMax, who are behind the sensational RPG franchise The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, have some new surprises in store for fans. Six new trademark applications have just been filed for the iconic dragon shout Fus Ro Dah.
In the game, players are able to summon a force powerful enough to push away enemies when resounding the call. However, the shout began to truly resonate with players after a video surfaced on YouTube showing a dragon shout with enough punch to knock an oversized person off of a table. An Internet meme exploded from there, making the phrase a widely-recognizable part of the game. This isn't the only Skyrim YouTube video to go viral. A live-action parody of the game surfaced on YouTube April 7th, and has accumulated more than a million views since.
And now it seems fans aren't the only ones to recognize the importance of the dragon shout. ZeniMax is making moves to protect its popularized intellectual property, with six applications pending with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. It is unclear what exactly will come from these trademarks, but one of them is said to cover clothing such as T-shirts and sweatshirts.
Another trademark involves computer software for use with computers and video game consoles. Earlier in the month Pete Hines of Bethesda said that cool news and surprises are in store for this month, but nothing has been officially confirmed. Rumors have been circulating about new downloadable content after the company also filed a patent for the term Dawnguard.
