‘SNL’ Creator Lorne Michaels Teases Jason Sudeikis’ Season 47 Return After Emmy Win
When “Saturday Night Live” Season 47 premieres on NBC, viewers could see the return of alum Jason Sudeikis in one of the new episodes.
On Sunday night, Lorne Michaels, the creator of the comedy sketch show, teased Sudeikis’ return to the press after “SNL” took home the Emmy for outstanding variety sketch.
“He’ll be coming back soon – to SNL – I’m very happy about that, as well,” he said.
Michaels revealed fans of the show will be pleased with what he has planned for the upcoming season. “I’m not gonna tell you much, only because we haven’t announced who’s hosting and who the first four are, but I don’t think anybody will be heartbroken,” he said.
“I think people will be happy with what we have,” Michaels added.
News of Sudeikis returning to “SNL” comes after the actor’s series, “Ted Lasso,” won several Emmy awards, including supporting actress in a comedy series and outstanding comedy series.
During Sudeikis’ acceptance speech for outstanding lead actor in a comedy series, he thanked his “Saturday Night Live” mentor. But Michaels, who was seated at a table close to the stage, was no longer in his seat.
“[He] went to go take a dump now. Perfect,” Sudeikis joked after realizing Michaels was missing from the table.
Sudeikis continued, “He’s gonna get home and he’s gonna watch it. He loves watching the Emmys at home. It’s fine. It’s fine.”
Sudeikis starred on “SNL” from 2003 to 2013.
“Saturday Night Live” Season 47 will premiere Oct. 2 on NBC.
