Is ‘SNL’ Live Tonight? First Season 44 Hosts, Musical Guests Revealed
“Saturday Night Live” is back! After months of reruns, fans can finally turn on NBC to see a brand-new, live “SNL” episode when Season 44 premieres on Saturday.
In the Sept. 29 episode, Adam Driver (“BlackKklansman,” “Star Wars: Return of the Jedi”) will host while Kanye West performs. It’s Driver’s second time hosting while West is making his seventh appearance on the NBC variety show.
The new episodes will just keep coming through the beginning of October. In the Oct. 6 episode, Awkwafina will host for the first time. The rapper, born Nora Lum, hit the big screen in “Ocean’s 8” as Constance early this summer and also stole scenes in “Crazy Rich Asians” as Peik Lin Goh. It isn’t surprising that “SNL” booked the funny lady after those big hits.
While she hosts, Travis Scott will perform. The rapper released his latest album, “Astroworld,” in August, and the LP has already gone platinum. He’ll head out on tour in November. Like Awkwafina, Scott is also making his “SNL” debut.
There won’t be any freshman on the Oct. 13 episode, though. Former “SNL” cast member Seth Meyers will host. The late night personality was on the variety show from 2001 to 2013, at which point he took over “Late Night” after Jimmy Fallon went to “The Tonight Show.” He spent several years co-anchoring the Weekend Update segment, and fans are likely hoping he’ll return to the news desk.
Paul Simon will be the musical guest on Oct. 13, which just happens to be his 77th birthday. Simon will be promoting his 14th studio album, “In the Blue Light.” He has been on “SNL” many times since his debut in 1975. He hosted four times, has been the musical guest eight times and even made a handful of cameos. This marks his first appearance since 2013.
As previously reported, “Saturday Night Live” Season 44 will include a new cast member, Ego Nwodim. The featured player, whose previous credits include “Law & Order True Crime,” “K.C. Undercover” and “Two Broke Girls,” is the only new actor announced so far. The series will also welcome new writers Alan Linic, Alison Gates, Eli Mandel and Bowen Yang.
“SNL” Season 44 premieres Saturday at 11:30 p.m. EDT and will air live coast-to-coast.
