Is ‘SNL’ New Tonight? 7 Things To Watch On Oct. 21
“Saturday Night Live” is not live tonight. The NBC sketch comedy show is a rerun on Oct. 21, and it looks like fans will have to live without Season 43 for a couple weeks. Luckily, there are other worthwhile options on TV tonight.
“Billy Madison” (11 p.m. EDT on Comedy Central) Watch “Saturday Night Live” alum Adam Sandler make audiences laugh as a spoiled party boy. His father used his influence to help him get through school, but when Billy’s dad gives him an ultimatum, Billy has to prove he can pass every grade on his own in 24 weeks. If he fails, the family business gets taken over by the conniving Eric (Bradley Whitford).
“The 40-Year-Old Virgin” (10:30 p.m. EDT on IFC) Star Steve Carrell actually stared in many of the animated sketches on “SNL,” most often voicing Gary from the “Ambiguously Gay Duo.” In this 2005 flick, Carrell plays a 40-year-old who lives on his own and has never had sex, but his friends want to change that.
“Ghostbusters” (12:30 a.m. EDT on VH1) “SNL” alums Dan Akroyd and Bill Murray as well as Harold Ramis play scientists who lose their jobs at a university and decide to start fighting the supernatural. They come up with high tech weapons to use to battle the ghosts of New York City, but after they stumble upon a gateway to another dimension, they have to stop the ghosts from destroying the city.
“Austin City Limits” (11 p.m. on PBS) It seems like PBS is one of the only networks premiering new programming late on Saturday night. The Zac Brown Band performs on this episode of the concert series. Expect to hear their new song “Welcome Home” as well as many of their hits.
“Friends With Benefits” (10 p.m. on MTV) Jamie (Mila Kunis) is a recruiter who convinces Dylan (Justin Timberlake) to move cross-country to New York for a job. They quickly become friends, but their relationship gets complicated when they start having sex. Andy Samberg is the only former “Saturday Night Live” cast member in the flick, but Woody Harrelson, Patricia Clarkson and Timberlake have all been on the NBC sketch show.
“The Walking Dead: The Journey So Far” (9 p.m. on AMC) Cast members and producers from the zombie drama look back on the TV show’s rise to success ahead of the show’s 100th episode. This new special is over two hours long.
“The Help” (11 p.m. on Bravo) The Academy Award winning movie isn’t as funny as “SNL,” but it is good. Skeeter (Emma Stone) returns from college and wants to be a writer. She looks to her own southern town for inspiration and interviews black women who make a living caring for wealthy white families. Only Aibileen (Viola Davis) talks first, but as more women decide to come forward, Skeeter realizes how much they have to say.
“Saturday Night Live” will return with a new episode after Halloween. On Nov. 4, “SNL” will welcome Larry David back as host. The comedian will be joined by “The Voice” judge Miley Cyrus, who will perform as the musical guest.
