Is ‘SNL’ On Tonight? David S. Pumpkins Special To Air Oct. 28
“Saturday Night Live” is not live tonight, but that doesn’t mean fans should turn off NBC. “SNL” fans will likely want to watch “The David S. Pumpkins Animated Halloween Special.”
This animated program will feature Tom Hanks voicing David S. Pumpkins, a character he played on “SNL” last fall. His skeleton dancers, played by Mikey Day and Bobby Moynihan, will also have voiceover roles. Joining the cast is “Game of Thrones” star Peter Dinklage and co-creator Streeter Seidell.
The special takes place on Halloween, of course. David S. Pumpkins and his sidekicks will visit a little boy and girl who need to be shown the true meaning of All Hallow’s Eve. While the special is mostly a cartoon, there will be a live action preamble.
“The David S. Pumpkins Animated Halloween Special” airs Saturday at 11:30 p.m. EDT on NBC. Unlike “Saturday Night Live,” the holiday show will only last half an hour.
“We had no idea [it would be this successful]. Look, that’s all the writing. The guys who wrote that came up with something and just went to town,” Hanks recently told NPR’s Pop Culture Happy Hour.
He added that he had to bring the pumpkin suit back (it was given to him after the episode) because the costume department couldn’t find another suit like it.
“SNL” will return soon enough. The variety show is back Nov. 4.
The new episode will bring back Larry David to host. He’ll be there to promote “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” which recently returned to HBO for Season 9 after more than five years on hiatus. You can bet that the NBC show will make him play Bernie Sanders again. The actor received rave reviews for his performance as the politician during last year’s election.
David’s episode will have a much younger musical guest. Miley Cyrus will perform on “Saturday Night Live.” It isn’t clear which songs the “Voice” judge will play, but she has already released two singles from her latest album, title track “Younger Now” and love song “Malibu.” She might use the appearance to promote her next single.
This will mark Cyrus’ fourth time on “SNL.” She first hosted in 2011, and then she pulled double duty as both host and singer when she appeared on the show in 2013 and 2015. This, however, is the singer’s first time as just the musical guest.
