Snowmobile Crash VIDEO: American Caleb Moore Dies After Injuries In X Games Crash
Snowmobiler Caleb Moore died Thursday afternoon from injuries sustained in a horrifying crash during the Winter X-Games in Aspen, Colorado, last week.
Moore, 25, slammed his head into the snow after attempting a flip when his vehicle failed to completely turn over and then fell on top of him on Jan. 24.
He left the course under his own power, but was later taken to a nearby Grand Junction hospital for treatment for a concussion. However, Moore remained there in critical condition with injuries around his heart and brain until his death.
ESPN, the long-time sponsor of the X-Games, issued a statement after Moore’s death.
"For 18 years, we have worked closely on safety issues with athletes, course designers and other experts,” the network’s statement read. “Still, when the world's best compete at the highest level in any sport, risks remain."
A Texas native, Moore was competing in the snowmobile freestyle final, and had extensive experience in all-terrain vehicles before trying his hand at snowmobiles four years ago, according to reports.
