'So You Think You Can Dance’ 2015 Spoilers: America, Meet Your Top 20 Contestants [RECAP]
It’s Part 2 of the legendary (and terrifying) Vegas week on “So You Think You Can Dance.” Dozens of dancers were sent packing within the first 48 hours of eliminations. When Episode 6 begins, it’s not getting any easier. At the end of Day 2, these “SYTYCD” hopefuls were thrown back into the ring for their next competition.
There are 38 street dancers and 36 stage dancers when “So You Think You Can Dance” opens. The groups will be cut down to just 10 dancers for each team. “You’re only as good as your weakest member,” Paula Abdul warns as the groups are broken down to smaller teams to choreograph their own routines. Each of the teams are given challenging music to work on through the night. It's only Day 3, and their hardest challenge has yet to begin: working together.
The cheeky street group called Party of Five is the first to go and their playful routine set to a James Brown song bowls over the judges. However, the group known as Date Night hits more than a few awkward speed bumps. One of their members opted to sleep in, while the rest toiled in early morning rehearsal. When their name is called it looks as if the wayward stage team member barely stretched. Their performance suffered as a result, and the judges Nigel Lythgoe and Travis Wall were quick to call them on it.
Memphis dancer Lydia Yates leads team Black Out for their own round of choreography, but unfortunately, it doesn't impress the judges. Yates has to dance for her life in the next round and other teams were soon quick to disappoint. “SYTYCD” favorite Sonya Tayeh returns for a jazz routine that knocks out even more hopefuls. More favorites are given tickets out of Vegas. So who was making it to the next round?
In a shocking turn, ballroom dancer Denys dropped out of the competition because he felt his style wasn’t represented as much on this year’s “So You Think You Can Dance.” He left to join his girlfriend, Antonina, who was cut the day before. Sadly, someone not looking forward to getting cut was fan favorite, Kenya “Standing Ovation” Sutton.
So, now meet your “SYTYCD” Season 12 Top 20 finalists. Team Stage will feature Marissa, Edson, Moises, Kate, Hailee, Jim, Alexia, Derek, Darian, and Gabby. Team Street will rock with Alain, Jessica, Yorelis, Lily, Ariana, Virgil, Eddie, Megz, Burim and Jaja. And in an unfortunate twist, one chosen dancer was forced to withdraw, meaning someone will get a second chance at “So You Think You Can Dance” fame.
“So You Think You Can Dance” returns to Fox on Mondays at 8 p.m. EDT.
