‘So You Think You Can Dance’ Season 14 Spoilers: Vanessa Hudgens Tapped As Third Judge

Vanessa Hudgens’ “Powerless” may have just been canceled, but the actress-singer will still be seen on television every week starting this June.

According to TV Line, the “High School Musical” star has signed on to be the third judge of “So You Think You Can Dance” Season 14. Hudgens will be working closely with fellow judges Nigel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy.

Lythgoe, who also acts as executive producer of the show, released a statement following Hudgens’ casting. “I am so excited for Vanessa to join Mary and me on the judging panel for the 14th season of ‘So You Think You Can Dance.’ There was an instant chemistry in the audition rounds, and I know the ‘SYTYCD’ fans will love her as much as we do. Vanessa is an accomplished artist and brings her own brand of enthusiasm and energy to our panel,” he said.

“So You Think You Can Dance” Season 14 is expected to return to its roots of tapping adult professional dancers to compete on the show. Last year, the producers of the hit FOX reality TV competition decided to feature young performers aged between 8 and 13 years old. Last season’s panel included Paula Abdul and guest judge Maddie Ziegler.

Unfortunately, the bold move from the creators of the show didn’t pay off because the ratings for “So You Think You Can Dance” Season 13 dropped tremendously, according to Deadline. While speaking with the publication earlier this year, Lythgoe said that Season 14 will be all about giving back to their fans.

“We have decided to go back to basics by bringing the best of our past formats together for an exciting new summer featuring accomplished adult competitors partnered with fan-favorite All-Star dancers. And, of course, as in past seasons, there will be new surprises which are sure to wow our viewers,” he said.

The online auditions for “So You Think You Can Dance” kicked off in January, while the in-person auditions were held in New York from March 4 to 6 and Los Angeles on March 17 to 19.

“So You Think You Can Dance” Season 14 will premiere on FOX on June 12 at 8 p.m. EDT.
