‘So You Think You Can Dance’ Season 14 Spoilers: Will Koine Iwasaki Head To The Academy?

“So You Think You Can Dance” Season 14 will air its third episode on Monday night and will introduce 18-year-old dancer Koine Iwasaki.

According to the Sun-Sentinel, Iwasaki has watched episodes of the hit FOX dance reality TV competition ever since she was 11 years old. With her desire to compete in the show, Iwasaki trained hard and worked almost seven days a week to perfect her craft. Now that she has turned 18, the Pembroke Pines native will finally have the chance to showcase her talent in front of judges Nigel Lythgoe, Mary Murphy and Vanessa Hudgens.

While speaking with the publication, the teenager revealed that her audition took place in New York sometime in December. She waited in line for two hours, but was more than happy for the experience. “Auditioning in front of the judges has been so cool for me. I’ve always imagined how it would be when I’m in front of Nigel and Mary. Being able to audition and dance in front of them was amazing, something that I’ll never forget,” she said.

Unfortunately, Iwasaki couldn’t say whether or not she received a ticket to the Academy during her audition, but it’s highly likely that she did. After all, joining “SYTYCD” isn’t her first time to perform in front of a large crowd. Last year, she went on a Latin America tour for Colombian sing Maluma’s Pretty Boy in the Dirty Boy World Tour.

“Being on tour was so awesome, not only because I was able to dance every day and do what I love, but I was able to travel because of dance. The friendships and relationships that I’ve made on tour are family now. I was so grateful for all the hard work to pay off, and it just makes me want to work harder,” she said.

Iwasaki isn’t the first South Florida native to join “So You Think You Can Dance.” In Season 12, Miami’s Gaby Diaz won over the rest of the other dancers. In Season 13, Miami dancer Ruby Castro also participated in the dance reality TV competition.

“So You Think You Can Dance” Season 14 airs Mondays at 8 p.m. EDT on FOX.
