Manchester United, who were expecting Paul Pogba to return to action in busy December, have been hit with a new setback.

Pogba's return has been delayed after he missed two days' training sessions due to illness. The star midfielder, who was expected to train this week, missed almost 11 weeks' play due to an ankle injury.

The Frenchman reportedly attended his brother's wedding on Friday in France and is believed that it was there that he fell ill. He consulted a doctor on Saturday but his symptoms worsened the following day.

"He's been struck down ill. He's been off two days, which is not beneficial. It's probably set him back quite a bit," Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told media.

The 26-year-old has played only six times this season for the Red Devils, who have had their worst start in their Premier League history.

When asked if former champions had learned to play without Pogba, the Norweigan manager denied it immediately and suggested that the midfielder was missed during Man Utd's 1-1 draw at home to Everton Sunday.

"It's games like the Everton one, for example, when you are lacking that one creative pass or idea. He has the quality not many midfielders in the world have, so it would be great to get him back," Solskjaer added.

Man Utd's next fixture on the roster is their Carabao Cup quarter-final against League Two side Colchester, who are set to make their first-ever visit to Old Trafford.

While Solskjaer has insisted to make a few changes to Man Utd's starting XI for Thursday's match, it has hinted another start for 18-year-old Mason Greenwood, who scored his seventh goal of the season against Everton and rescued the hosts were who trailing 0-1.

"It's very difficult now to put a team out there without having Mason in my mind, yes. I remember when I came to the club and scored a few goals, I felt I could perform better, The manager used to say it was hard to keep players who score out of the team. It is the same with Mason," said Solskjaer.
