Sergio Aguero has established himself as one of the best strikers to have ever played in the Premier League.

According to reports, Aguero, who joined Manchester City from Atletico Madrid in 2011, could have ended in Chelsea had John Terry not stopped the move.

While the Blues wanted to strengthen their squad with a fresh signing and 21-year-old Aguero would have been a perfect fit. Chelsea even initiated negotiations with Atletico Madrid in the 2009 summer.

However, they initially backed off due to the Argentine's fee of $52 million as well as his high wage demands. The two clubs in the same season faced off in the Champions League in the second leg, Aguero proved his worth by netting two goals.

While almost whole of Stamford Bridge was convinced, then skipper John Terry was not. A recent report from The Athletic revealed that Terry told the Chelsea management that he was not fully impressed with Aguero and cited his "poor movement" as a reason to avoid signing.

Terry, who was very influential during his leadership days in Chelsea, wanted to sign the likes of Frank Ribery and David Villa instead.

"I think we’ll see Chelsea back and competing for the top players who are out there at the moment. The likes of Franck Ribery, David Villa. These are the kind of players we want to attract. Valencia are struggling for money, that’s well-publicized when it comes to Villa, and there’s been a lot of talk about Ribery. We’ll be in for players in the summer, but when big players like them become available, we need to show people that, yes, Chelsea are back," Terry reportedly said at the time.

In the end, neither Villa nor Ribery joined Chelsea, who ended up signing Daniel Sturridge the following summer.

Meanwhile, Aguero had spent another season at Atletico before he eventually moved to England as a Man City player. And, the rest is history.

The Argentine has become a Man City legend, having scored a terrific 244 goals in 353 appearances for the club and winning three Premier League titles so far. Ironically, ever since Aguero has moved to City, he has scored as many as 15 times against the Blues in 18 appearances – the most he has scored against a team in the Premier League.
