The Cleveland Cavaliers fell short of an NBA title this month and fans and team members left with a sour taste in their mouth. The NBA offseason can be a time for reflection and to figure out how to move forward. That’s what Cav’s forward LeBron James tried to do when he released a care-free video of himself, with a freshly shaved head —but the internet took his video and made it into a joke, the "LeBron James Challenge."

Internet challenges come in many forms, some fun and some dangerous. This time around, the challenge is in jest, a response to James and a video he released following the Cavaliers loss to the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals this month. The new social media sensation has people attempting to replicate James’ original video posted to his Instagram. It is known as the "LeBron James Challenge."

James initially posted a video of himself having fun in the gym. He rapped along to a song playing in the background called “First Day Out.” James posted the video on Instagram with a caption that read, "Bald head nut!! #IHearEmPrayingOnMyDownfall #CantStopWontStop #striveforgreatness." The video gained attention as James debuted his new haircut to the world. It has amassed more than 7 million views and 52,000 comments on the social media site.

People made their own versions of James gym video and posted them to Twitter and Instagram with the hashtag #LeBronJamesChallenge. Comedian and recording artist known as ‘DaKidGowie’ went all out for the challenge as he shaved his head and facial hair to look like James. He mimicked the movements and camera angle James used in the original video. His interpretation may have sparked the internet to chime in with their interpretations of the video.

Fans aren’t the only ones having fun with the internet challenge. Milwaukee Bucks star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo and his brother Thanasis took to Instagram for their interpretation.

Even though James is the center of the internet’s latest meme, he has had shining moments on the internet. He took to his online media outlet Uninterrupted last week with a heartfelt message to the players who participated in Thursday’s NBA Draft.

"I just want to say best of luck and congratulations to all the NBA draftees today. I understand, being there at one point is a dream, come true, it's something that you worked your ass off and your life for to be in a position today to hear your name be called," James said.

He added: "And I also want to say to the guys whose name might not be called, do not give up on your dream. There's still opportunity out there, there's still teams that want you, there's still a lot of basketball in your lives so don't get discouraged if your name is not being called tonight, if you put in the time and put in the effort and this is your path, if this is your passion then you will make your dream come true."
