Sofia Vergara: Illness Forces 'Modern Family' Actress To Miss The 2013 Oscars [PHOTO]

Sofia Vergara was noticeably absent from Oscars 2013 on Sunday, due to illness.

The “Modern Family” star tweeted the night of the awards, “Watching the Oscars at home.”

“She came down with a nasty case of flu and had to cancel all plans for Oscar weekend,” a source told the New York Post.

Prior to announcing that illness kept her from the Oscars, Vergara had been seen out with her fiancé, Nick Loeb, in West Hollywood, eating dinner at Boa Steakhouse Friday night.

The 40-year-old Columbian bombshell has made headlines this year due to Loeb. The couple reportedly has been seeking counseling after a New Year’s Eve brawl left Vergara with a torn dress, according to multiple media reports.

“They recently had their first meeting with the therapist, who has been on the phone and given positive results. It was Sophia who encouraged Nick to help start this program, because she wants to be sure that the two are compatible,” a close friend of Vergara’s told Columbian newspaper El Espectador last month.

On New Year’s Eve, Vergara and Loeb were celebrating when he was thrown out of a club in Miami.

The couple was at club Story when Loeb became upset with Vergara and then with guests at a table nearby, according to the New York Post's Page Six. The pair were guests in the club's VIP section of Vergara’s ex, Chris Paciello.

“In the early hours, Nick and Sofia were arguing before he got into a dispute with somebody at a neighboring table. Some pushing and shoving started," a source told the New York Post.

"Sofia stepped in to try to calm the situation, but somehow she ended up getting pushed and shoved also. Her strapless dress was torn or pulled down in the melee, exposing her cleavage in front of other people and her son, Manolo, who was so offended he left the club. It was crazy.”

The source added, "Nick was pulled away from Sofia and those at the next table by security guards, who dragged him out of the VIP section and threw him out of the club. Sofia followed him.”

Despite the argument, Vergara quickly made up with Loeb outside the club, the source said, and they are seemingly still going strong.
