Sofia Vergara Reveals How Joe Manganiello 'Convinced' Her To Date Him
Sofia Vergara may be getting ready to head down the aisle with fiancé Joe Manganiello this fall, but she wasn’t always so keen on the hunky actor. Vergara previously said she felt Manganiello was “too handsome” to date. Now the “Hot Pursuit” actress is revealing even more about the early stages of their relationship.
During an appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” Monday, Vergara shared with viewers that she didn’t initially want to go out with her hubby-to-be. The 42-year-old told host Ellen DeGeneres she thought “he seemed like a lot of work,” so she wanted to steer clear.
“I had just finished a relationship,” she said. “[Joe] seemed like a lot of work because [he's] so handsome and younger than me and, like, so sexy and whatever…And I’m like, ‘Ugh. Just too much!’ But he convinced me.”
Despite her unwillingness, Manganiello was able to get Vergara to go on a first date with him. The “True Blood” star turned on the charm, whisking her away on a romantic trip down South. From that moment on, the couple was inseparable.
“He flew to New Orleans and forced me on a date. And then I couldn’t, you know,” she said. “I’m like, he’s a great guy, super fun, super normal and we have like – we click. Like, it’s super easy to hang out with him.
Vergara and Manganiello began dating sometime around July 2014, just two months after she and fiancé Nick Loeb ended their relationship. That December they were engaged to be married. According to Us Weekly Manganiello asked his fiancée to marry him on Christmas day so he could “do it in front of her family.”
Sofia Vergara will appear on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” today at 4 p.m. EDT. Check your local listings for networks and times in your area. Check out previews for the episode below!
