Some PS5 Pre-Orders Might Not Arrive Until Next Year

Some PS5 customers who pre-ordered the console recently received a notice from the retailer claiming that it might not be able to fulfill pre-orders until 2021.

The latest information was shared by VGC who cited some of its readers in Ireland as sources. The notice claims that the delay is because of circumstances that are out of the retailer’s control, the report continued. The retailer reportedly offers customers the option to stay cancel the order or stay in the queue.

The Irish retailer’s notice was sent to customers after Sony began informing European retailers of their launch day allocation of the PS5. On September 28, U.K.’s ShopTo said that it had received PS5 allocation details from the Japanese gaming giant. Essentially, it meant that the retailer would not be able to fulfill all of its PS5 pre-orders.

The retailer emailed its PS5 pre-order customers telling them either that their pre-orders are safe or they would not receive the console in time for the official release. eCommerce giant Amazon also warned some of its PS5 pre-order customers that they might not get their PS5 gaming console on the day of the console’s official release.

When Sony announced that the PS5 pre-order will go live on September 17, most retailers sold out of PS5 pre-orders a few hours after the announcement on September 16. That is despite the fact that Sony said the pre-sales would start the following day. PlayStation issued a statement apologizing to fans for the problematic PS5 pre-order.

The company even assured fans that ample supply would be available all through 2020 for all PS5 fans. Several retailers opened the second wave of PS5 pre-orders last September 25, which sold out immediately. However, there is still hope.

PS5 pre-order stock might appear between now and the console’s official release in November. Otherwise, it appears that most of the PlayStation’s launch inventory has already been claimed. Sony earlier announced that its next-generation gaming console would be released on November 12 in the U.S., Canada, Japan, Australia, Mexico and South Korea. The rest of the world, including Europe, will receive the PS5 on November 19.
