Song Hye Kyo Leaves South Korea After Divorce Settlement, Reportedly Pursues Art In New York

Song Hye Kyo is leaving South Korea for a while as she will be living in the United States to focus on personal development. Recent reports claimed that the 37-year-old Hallyu superstar will take up an art course in New York City, which will require her to stay there longer than her usual trips in the Big Apple.

The former wife of Song Joong Ki flew, on Sept. 7, to attend the New York Fashion Week and remained over the Chuseok weekend. The next thing fans know, Hye Kyo registered for a short-term course at a yet-to-be-revealed art school.

However, a representative of the United Artists Agency, which manages Song Hye Kyo, did not confirm the news. “[The reports] are related to her private life, so we do not know anything about it,” the source said. The agency, reportedly, gave the same answer to Apple Daily, a Hong Kong-based outlet that broke the news.

Hye Kyo graduated with a degree in Film Arts at Sejong University. She landed her first television drama on “First Love” but it was not until the “Autumn in My Heart” in early 2000 the she garnered a significant number of followings across Asia. Her star power continued to dominate the entertainment world when she starred in other successful television series such as “All In” (2003) “Full House” (2004), “Sunlight Pours Down” (2004), “Worlds Within” (2008), “That Winter, the Wind Blows” (2013), “Descendants of the Sun” (2016) and “Encounter” (2018), among others.

To recall, Song Hye Kyo announced her decision to take some time off from acting after her divorce with Song Joong Ki was finalized in July. "I need to have some time for myself," the actress told Hong Kong Tatler in an exclusive interview. Hye Kyo added that she might work on a new project next year.

Song Joong Ki shocked fans by filing for divorce from Song Hye Kyo in June. The actress’ agency revealed that irreconcilable differences is one of the major reasons behind their decision to split. It was, however, made clear that there will be no settlement money nor division of property involved during the process.

The former lovebirds settled their divorce a month after the announcement. Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo, reportedly, had a closed-door hearing, which lasted for about 20 minutes, at Seoul Family Court.
