songland 105 meghan trainor recap
Meghan Trainor was the guest artist on episode of NBC’s “Songland.” Trae Patton/NBC

Meghan Trainor, who has not only released quite a few of her own hits but also written a bunch for other artists (like Rascal Flatts and Jennifer Lopez), was the latest superstar guest on NBC’s “Songland” looking for a new musical masterpiece to record.

During episode 5 on Tuesday, the “Me Too” singer listened to four original tracks from this week’s competing songwriters — Josh Wood, KOLE, Brandin Jay and Zachary Kale — before choosing the top 3 that would move on to the final round.

Unfortunately for Kale, he didn’t make the cut. This is also unfortunate for fans who liked his song, “All Over Again,” because this also means it’s not available to listen to online.

After the remaining guest songwriters went off with the show’s in-house mega-hit songwriters/producers — Shane McAnally, Ester Dean and Ryan Tedder — to fix up their songs, they performed them for Trainor one last time before she made her ultimate decision.

In the end, she chose KOLE’s “Hurt Me” to record, and the song was released immediately after “Songland” finished airing, which means it’s now on Spotify and iTunes for all to hear.

As for the other episode 5 songs, since Wood’s “Alone” and Jay’s “We Got Us” still made it into the top 3, that means the artists were able to record their tracks and have them made available for fans on streaming services and digital music retailers after the episode wrapped, as well.

Go ahead and add these songs to your growing “Songland” playlist, and then get ready for episode 6 next week because Aloe Blacc and “Hobbs & Shaw” director David Leitch are looking for the next big song to put in the upcoming action flick, a la Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth’s “See You Again,” which was in “Furious 7.”
