A sci-fi anime revolving around the lives of 36 boys and girls is part of the ongoing Summer Anime 2021 catalog. "Sonny Boy" anime shows a school drifting into an alien dimension.

The official website has released the synopsis and spoiler stills of "Sonny Boy" Episode 1. During the summer vacation, Nagara and the other students are trapped in their school and are floating in the void.

The students develop unusual abilities as they enter another dimension. However, they still don't have the power to return to the old world.

Cap and a few other students set some rules to restore order. They ask the students to adhere to these rules or prepare to face strict punishment.

"Sonny Boy" is based on a story by Shingo Natsume and the original character design is by Hisashi Eguchi. The first episode of the series is directed by Shingo Natsume. Mari Fujino is the art director of the anime, while Keita Nagasaka is the animation director.

"It's an ordinary summer vacation...except for the fact that Nagara’s high school has mysteriously drifted into another dimension. As the students begin to develop strange new powers, will they work together to survive the alien environment and find a way home, or will their newly formed factions and rivalries turn on each other?" read the official series synopsis of "Sonny Boy," according to Funimation.

The cast of the anime includes Aoi Ichikawa as Nagara, Saori Onishi as Nozomi, Chiaki Kobayashi as Asakaze, Aoi Yūki as Mizuho, Yoji Ueda as Cap, Shōta Yamamoto as Shanghai, Hiroki Gotō as Rajdhani, Hana Sato as Pony and Ami Naitō as Hoshi.

Fans can watch "Sonny Boy" Episode 1 online on Funimation. The episode will live stream in Japanese with English subtitles. Episode 1 will premiere this Thursday in the U.S.
