It's looking like 2021 is going to be a busy year for Marvel as yet another potential film could be coming that year. It would be a Sony-Marvel property, meaning that it is likely “Spider-Man” or a character somehow related to the web-slinger, the same year that the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s “Spider-Man 3” is coming out.

Twitter user @ERCboxoffice posted that there is a Marvel-Sony film set to release Oct. 8, 2021 without giving any additional details as to what it could be. IGN confirmed the news. Immediately, fans got excited, throwing out ideas of who the movie could be about.

While Sony continues to work on “Venom” and “Morbius,” it seems to fans that more than likely we’ll be seeing another selection from Spider-Man’s rogue’s gallery.

With that said, there are several Spider-Man villains who seem like likely candidates who aren’t already adapted in some way.

Kraven the Hunter

One of the most popular Spider-Man villains of all time who has appeared frequently in the Sinister Six is Kraven the Hunter. Despite his popularity in the comic books, there have never been any serious discussions for including him in a movie. However, there were some rumors near the end of 2018 that would have Kraven team up with Mysterio to take on Spider-Man, according to Collider.

Carnage

Carnage was hinted at in a post-credit scene after “Venom,” in which Cletus Kasady (Woody Harrelson) is revealed, stating that there will be “carnage” if he gets out. While this was an obvious push to have Carnage make an appearance in either the upcoming “Venom” movie or a film on his own, it’s never been officially announced that he’d come back.

Gwen Stacy

Gwen Stacy, or “Spider-Gwen” under her superhero alias, the on-again-off-again love interest of Peter Parker and on-again-off-again superhero made her first crime-fighting appearance in the Academy Award-winning animated film “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.” But aside from serving as a love interest for Peter Parker in the second incarnation of Spider-Man films, she’s never had a big live-action debut where she gets to put on the suit and swing around the city like Spider-Man. A Sony might be looking to introduce a Sony-verse heroine of their own since the MCU has a version of MJ.

Miles Morales

Again, we got our first look at the character in “Into the Spider-Verse,” but Miles has never actually made a live-action appearance. However, he was hinted at in “Spider-Man: Homecoming” when Aaron Davis (Donald Glover) made a surprise appearance as an arms dealer. He later tells Peter about his nephew, referencing Miles Morales’s existence within the MCU. But with the new deal between Marvel Studios and Sony, we may see Miles and/or Peter swing back and forth between universes, “Spider-Verse” style.

Black Cat

Matt Aquilar at ComicBook.com put in his two cents and suggested that the beloved Black Cat finally makes her on-screen debut. Felicity Jones played one iteration of the character in “The Amazing Spider-Man 2,” the Sony Spider-Man trilogy that was ultimately canned when it was decided that Marvel Studios would finally make their Spider-Man movie. However, she is sans powers and her screen time is highly limited.

Prowler

Speaking of Aaron Davis, his anti-hero alter ego Prowler was seen briefly in “Into the Spider-Verse,” but could be making a live-action appearance. While Glover’s appearance in “Spider-Man: Homecoming” served as a two-for-one cameo (previously, Glover and his fanbase petitioned for him to play Spider-Man, which led him to voice Miles Morales in the “Amazing Spider-Man” cartoon), it means that they already have this one cast. They just need to give him the costume.
