Sony To Launch Android 7.0 Nougat Beta For Xperia X Performance Ahead Of Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Beta Testing
Sony announced earlier today the return of its Beta Program after its short slumber since testing for Android 6.0 Marshmallow wrapped up in July. This time, the Beta Program is for Android 7.0 Nougat and Xperia X Performance owners are in luck, for they will be the first ones to check this out.
As the arrival of Android 7.0 Nougat is nearing, it is just right for Sony to revive its Xperia Beta Program. Previously, the Beta Program was only available to the Xperia Z3, Z5 and other Z ranges. But now, it is going to be released on Xperia X Performance first before hitting other Xperia X handsets, as per Android Authority.
For interested owners of Xperia X Performance, they need to sign up on Sony’s Beta Program via the Xperia Beta Program app which is now available on the Google Play Store. There are only limited slots, so they are advised to act quickly.
Sadly, not everyone who signed up for the Beta Program will be able to beta test the Android 7.0 Nougat beta for Xperia X Performance, since Sony will be choosing only a lucky few to receive the update notification when the beta rolls out.
Furthermore, the Xperia Beta Program app is only available to download in certain regions. So only Xperia X Performance owners who are in Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain and Sweden can sign up and participate in the program.
GSM Arena warned phone owners who will be joining the beta test that the beta software typically contains many bugs that could cause smartphones to manifest strange behavior. The mobile news and review site added that as much as possible, people should not try to beta test using their main device.
Meanwhile, it is just right that Sony is reviving its Beta Program for the Xperia X Performance first, since the handset is currently the company’s latest flagship. According to Android Police, the device has a 5-inch 1080p display, 3GB of RAM, a 23-megapixel primary camera, dual front-facing speakers and is powered by a Snapdragon 820 processor.
Sony's decision to relaunch its Beta Program for Android 7.0 Nougat comes in the wake of Samsung Mobile President Koh Dong-jin’s announcement Samsung intends to do beta testing for its Galaxy Note 7 soon. However, since Sony has now rolled out its Xperia Beta Program app, it is very likely that the Japanese brand would start beta testing for its Xperia X Performance ahead of the South Korean tech giant.
