Sony to miss forecast, see first operating loss in 14 years: report
Sony Corp. is expected to post its first operating loss in 14 years of about $1.12 billion (100 billion yen) of the year ending March 31, reported Japanese daily Nikkei on Tuesday.
Nikkei said Sony could report a final figure double than that depending on inventory conditions in the January-March quarter. Sony has been hit by less demand for electronics and profit margins scaled down by a strong yen.
In the month of October, Sony forecasted a full-year operating profit of 200 billion yen for the year ending March 31. The figure is down compared to 475.2 billion yen in the year 2007-08.
Sony Corp. will announce its quarterly earnings results on Jan. 29.
