  • PS5 costs between $400 and $500 in the U.S.
  • Sony announces a price cut for PS5 in Brazil
  • It will be applicable for the PS5 standard Edition, PS5 Digital Edition, DualSense controller and PS5 accessories

Sony's next-generation PlayStation 5 console and accessories will now become a little less expensive in Brazil as the company announces a price cut ahead of its release later this month.

In a blogpost, PlayStation Brazil announced that the price cuts are possible due to the lowering of taxes on gaming-related electronics in the South American nation.

The new announcement came as good news for gamers even though the PS5 console and accessories will still cost more in the region compared to their prices in the United States.

The PS5 costs between $400 and $500 in the U.S. depending on the version.

The cost of the PS5 Standard Edition is around $499 in the U.S., while it is $889 (R$4,999) in Brazil. It will now be available for R$4,699. The new price cut will be applicable for the PS5 Standard Edition, PS5 Digital Edition, DualSense controller and other accessories.

The price of PS5 Digital Edition will be reduced to R$4,199 from R$4,499, while the DualSense controller will be available for R$469 as against its previous price of R$499. The PS5 HD camera will now cost R$419.

Sony said gamers who have already pre-ordered and paid for the PS5 will get refunds.

To some, the price cut may seem minimal, but it can make the next-generation gaming console more affordable for gamers in Brazil, where gaming is way more expensive compared to other countries. Unlike other countries, Brazil slaps heavy taxes on foreign imported electronics, forcing companies like Sony to sell their products at a much higher rate. PS5's original price in Brazil is almost 200% of the console's retail price in the U.S.

Sony is set to release the PS5 on Nov. 12 in the U.S., Japan, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico and South Korea. It will be released in other countries on Nov. 19.
