Sony Xperia XZ Pro Rumored To Arrive With 4K OLED Display At MWC 2018
Sony is reportedly preparing to launch a new flagship Android Xperia phone at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018. A Chinese news site claims that Sony’s next phone will be called the Xperia XZ Pro and it is said to arrive with an OLED 4K display.
Information on the upcoming Xperia XZ Pro was reported by MyDrivers. The site claims that the new Sony Android phone will have a 5.7-inch 4K OLED display. Sony already has a 4K resolution display on last year’s XZ Premium, but that handset has a 5.5-inch LCD panel. It seems as though Sony is trying to once again make 4K screens in smartphones mainstream and now it’s doing it with an OLED display.
The site also said that the Xperia XZ Pro will have an IP68 water and dust resistance rating. An IP68 rating means the device will be able to survive being submerged up to 1.5 meters (5 feet) of water for 30 minutes, according to XDA Developers.
Since the Sony Xperia XZ Pro will be a flagship offering, it will also have premium internal specs. The device will reportedly be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 processor with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage. The device will also support microSD cards for expanding storage. The Xperia XZ Pro will also pack a 3,420mAh battery and a variant of the device will feature dual SIM support.
The Snapdragon 845 is Qualcomm’s latest and greatest system-on-chip and it’s also expected to power Samsung’s Galaxy S9 and S9+ and other Android flagships. Needless to say, the Xperia XZ Pro will be Sony’s device that will compete with other Snapdragon 845-powered Android smartphones.
The Xperia XZ Pro is also said to have dual cameras on the back. One camera will have an 18-megapixel sensor with a pixel size of 1.33μm, while the other will have a 12-megapixel sensor with a 1.38μm pixel size. Up front, the handset will have a 13-megapixel shooter. Unfortunately, there’s no information yet on the front camera’s pixel size or lens configuration.
On the software side of things, the Sony XZ Pro is said to run Android Oreo. It wasn’t specified if it will run Android 8.0 or 8.1.
The Sony Xperia XZ Pro is expected to be announced during MWC 2018, which will kick off next month, specifically on Feb. 26, in Barcelona, Spain. Rumor has it the device will be released sometime in June with pricing speculated to be around 6,000 yuan (around US$930), according to GizmoChina.
