Sophie Hunter Pregnancy Confirmed, Benedict Cumberbatch’s Fiancée To Welcome Baby In 2015
Benedict Cumberbatch is a father-to-be! After weeks of speculation that his fiancée, actress and theater director Sophie Hunter, was expecting, the “Sherlock” actor’s publicist confirmed the pregnancy news Wednesday.
“I’m delighted to confirm that Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter are expecting their first child,” Cumberbatch’s rep said, via E! News. “They are both over the moon.”
The pregnancy confirmation falls on the heels of a report from Showbiz Spy last month which speculated that the actor’s 36-year-old belle was with child, but holding off on making the official announcement until she was three months along. “They will deny the pregnancy until they want to announce it,” an insider told the site. “They’re very private.”
Echoing "The Imitation Game" actor’s rep, the tabloid said Cumberbatch, 38, was “delighted” about the idea of welcoming a child. “All his dreams are finally coming true,” said a source. “Ben has long dreamed about his settling down and starting a family.”
While a baby may be on the way for Cumberbatch and Hunter in 2015, a wedding is currently not. While attending the 26th annual Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala in California Saturday, the actor said his work— which includes the coming awards season and filming the new installment of his hit BBC One series “Sherlock”— comes before any wedding planning.
“One thing at a time,” he said, according to Pop Sugar. “I’m playing Sherlock now, just about to start, so my main focus is going to be on that.”
The couple met in 2009 when they co-starred in the drama/thriller “Burlesque Fairytales.” They first sparked dating rumors after being spotted attending the French Open together in June 2014. In October, Cumberbatch was seen traveling to Hunter’s hometown of Edinburgh, Scotland. Reports suggested he made the trip in order to ask Hunter’s mother for her daughter’s hand in marriage. The couple confirmed their engagement in November in the Times of London.
